The AGL Loy Yang North Gippsland Football Netball League’s junior representative teams once again proved they are more than a match for Gippsland’s top talent, with a commendable performance at last weekend’s Eastern Zone Association Championships carnival at Sale.
Both sides finished in the top four at the end of the round robin matches before falling to the eventual competition champion at the semi-final stage.
The 15-and-under side, coached by Narelle Parsons, won four of its seven round robin matches, defeating Alberton, West Gippsland, Ellinbank and District and Mid Gippsland.
Semi-final opponent Sale Netball Association proved too strong on their home court and they went on to defeat Gippsland 15-9 in the grand final.
It was a similar story for the 17-and-under side, with Tracey Grogan’s girls recording five wins from eight games, defeating Gippsland Red, Orbost, Ellinbank and District, Bairnsdale and Alberton en route to the semi-final.
The West Gippsland team showed why it completed the championships undefeated with a strong performance in the semi-final, which it repeated in the grand final against the Gippsland League Blue, winning in overtime 15-12.
Well done to all our players on their outstanding efforts.
