Association Netball Championships

Under 15
Coach Bridget Corcoran

Association Championships is a chance for all rep players from our zone (Eastern) to be Talent Identified.

This is to have the opportunity to try out for Netball Victorias Talent pathway. It’s also a great opportunity for players to represent their leagues or associations with pride.

The morning started out very chilly but turned into a fresh but sunny winters day. The under 15 team was coached by Jess Anderson (Heyfield) and managed by Bridget Corcoran (Sale City) and was made up of a great mix of up-and-coming players from our league. Chloe Fox (Sale City) Eva Corcoran (Sale City) Isabelle Foley (Rosedale) Lexi Charles (TTU) Lexie Francis (Woodside) Lily Carmody (Sale City) Natalie Begovic (Sale City) Tess Anderson (Heyfield) Etse Imhagwe (TTU) – Out with Injury on the day Ruby Christian (Heyfield) and emergency fill ins for the season Georgia Ronchi (Heyfield) and Emily Hustwayte (Woodside).

The girls started the day with a loss to Ellinbank by just 2. Next saw them play their mates from Sale Netball Association and come away with a draw. Then a loss to friendly rivals Gippsland League, followed by a win over Traralgon Association. With another loss to powerhouse Moe Association, they dug deep and had a convincing win over Mid Gippsland FNL and then a small loss to West Gippsland. Which saw them finish 5th on the ladder for the day, narrowly missing out on finals.

These young ladies were an absolute pleasure to look after. Their discipline and determination to be their best was evident in their improvement over the season. They made some great new friends and opened their eyes to the real people who are normally their opposition. Best of luck for the remainder of the season ladies. The league is in good hands with these talented young women coming through the ranks.

UNDER 17 RED
Coach Deb Fox

The North Gippsland League was well represented in the 2023 Eastern Association Championships by 3 teams. One U15’s team and two U17’s teams. The Red U17’s Team consisted of Alyssa Edwards (TTU), Chloe Scott (Sale City), Ciara Fitt (Sale City), Emma Best (Sale City), Maddison Hodgson (Rosedale), Regan Clappton (Sale City), Reigan Leeson (Rosedale), Tilly Fox (Rosedale) and India Dean (Sale City). The team started the day slowly with an 11-1 goal loss to West Gippsland. The second game saw the girls fire up and get a win against Bairnsdale 14-6. The third and fourth games were tough opposition against Ellinbank FNL and Gippsland League going down in both. We then had the bye, regrouped, and came out strong after lunch notching up 2 consecutive wins to land ourselves 4ht on the ladder and into the qualifying final. The team played their hearts out and left nothing on the table. Unfortunately, we went down 14-15 against West Gippsland, which was a significant improvement from out first encounter earlier in the day. I am super proud of the efforts of all the girls, they showed resilience, great sportsmanship, skill and above all else have made some fantastic friendships. Awesome Effort all round and I big Thank you to Corrie Dean for being our Team Manager over the tournament season.

Congratulations and well done to all participating players at the association champs. It was a tough day if you looked at the scoreboard, but I don’t feel this was a true reflection of your performance.

There were many moments of growth and positivity throughout the day, I challenged you to back yourself, commit, and if unsuccessful, give me 2nd effort.

All players stood up, never gave up and had their moments. Thank you for embracing the opportunity and challenge, go well at club level.

2022 Netball Victoria Association Championships

The weather made for very difficult playing conditions throughout the day as Traralgon hosted the 2022 Netball Victoria Association Championships.

With far from ideal weather conditions, the morning started off freezing, cold and raining, not great for some of the players battling illness.

This tournament was the chance for all players to be talented identified and an opportunity for all to represent their football netball leagues and local clubs with pride.

Our girls decked out in the RED & WHITE, did just that!

Congratulations to all the NGFNL teams!

The 15&Under Open team coached by Jess Anderson gained some very impressive wins and the Reserve 15&U team coached by Deb Fox narrowly missing out on a Grand final berth yet again.  Well done to our up and coming junior talent, they are all playing and showing so much improvement over the last few months.

The 17&U Reserve team started out with some tough and close games, unfortunately losing to Warragul Drouin by 1 and drawing with East Gippsland.

During the tournament they really came together as a unified side, they shone under Libby Nicols guidance as they worked together. They all should be super proud of their efforts!

Each and every girl has improved immensely over the last couple of months.

The 17&Under Open team started out slowly, built as the day progressed, adapted to the weather conditions and played some quality netball throughout the day.  Not only are these girls incredible players to coach and mentor, but they are also incredibly humble and polite people, an absolute pleasure to coach. These girls are determined and disciplined, it was awesome to see them enjoying their netball and playing as a team, they have become wonderful friends even though they come from different clubs.  The camaraderie was evident with the giggling and the laughter during warmups, even though it was icy cold these girls found greatness in each other, trusting of one another.

During the fierce competition, they managed to come up against Gippsland, yet again and take the win for our proud North Gippsland FNL in the Grand final by 1 goal.

I honestly couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of this great league and be a part of this talented team.

We now look forward to competing in the Finals Day on Sunday 24th July at the State Netball Centre, Melbourne.

Sale Tournament – Sunday 22nd May 2022

We as a League have some incredible junior talent coming through from 15&U and 17&U and today was a chance to bring together our great players from many proud clubs, nurture that talent to ensure our competition remains strong going into the future.  The girls across all age groups did not disappoint.

Playing multiple games across the day with 2 teams making the finals at the end of the day.  Unfortunately, with only 1 grade for 17&U’s the 17&U RED team had to play some strong open teams however, as the day progressed some stars certainly emerged.  Woodside’s Libby Nicol was gracious enough to assist these girls with coaching and support which was truly appreciated.

Our 15&U sides played their hearts out all day with Heyfield’s Jess Anderson and Sale City’s Deb Fox coaching and encouraging our NGFNL teams with one 15&U team missing out by an overtime 1 goal deficit to play in the Grand final.  An amazing effort by all, it was an incredibly proud humbling moment watching the seas of red and white representing NGFNL today.

A most fantastic finish to a long day with the 17&U Open team winning the Grand final 14 to Gippsland League 7, a very momentous occasion with every single girl contributing all day to the end, a very proud moment to be part of.

Many thanks should also go to the many helpers, Team Managers, parents, scoring and supporting all the players and coaches.

Well done to all the players representing NGFNL showing great reliance, perseverance, collaboration and mateship today as we represented with pride.

The 17&U and 15&U NGFNL netball representative teams recently competed in the annual Netball Victoria Association Championships at Moe.

The tournament started in very slippery conditions, which proved difficult for all teams.  The 17&U team were very competitive displaying some great passages of play and their ability to win the ball back defensively was terrific.  The 15&U also worked hard with some closely contested games and executed their set plays well.  One of the highlights for the 15’s was a 10 all draw to eventual runners up West Gippsland League.

Both teams came away with wins and a draw.  ‘We were so proud of all the players development during training and on the day’ said coaches Paxton Farley, Bec Fromberg and Steph Henley.  “The teams came together very well and we were really impressed with how quickly they learnt new skills and their positive attitudes’.  It has been a great opportunity for players in the league to have the opportunity to experience playing netball at this elite level.

Thank you to umpires Jess Johnson and Claire Harrison for representing the NGFNL.
