Traralgon-Tyers United Football Netball Club has ushered in a new games record holder with Christian Buckley pulling on the red and black jumper for the 355th time against Woodside on Saturday.
‘Bucko’ eclipsed the mark set by Rod ‘Fish’ Jennings and celebrated with an 85-point win in the reserves clash at Tyers Recreation Reserve.
Buckley booted two goals and was named best-on-ground.
The 37-year-old made his club debut in 1998 under Thirds coach Col Scammell and has since tallied 148 senior games, 172 reserves games and 35 thirds games.
On-field accolades include a thirds club best-and-fairest award, a reserves premiership medal and the 2013 Lloyd Schacht Medal as the North Gippsland Football Netball League reserves best-and-fairest.
Off-field, Bucko has spent five years on the TTUFNC committee and five years as reserves coach, achieved life membership of the club in 2013 and earlier this year was inducted into the TTUFNC Hall of Fame.
According to the club’s Tagger scribe, this was achieved in spite of Bucko ‘having no opposite foot and only training 15 minutes a week’ but they went on to describe him as ‘the perfect example for every footballer on how to conduct themselves with pride and passion’.
“For almost two decades, Bucko has represented TTU with the utmost professionalism, loyalty, and dedication, both as a coach and a player,” the scribe wrote.
Congratulations to Bucko on his achievement and his ongoing contribution to the TTUFNC.
