AGL LOY YANG - NGFNL Under 18 Interleague Carnival 2016

AGL LOY YANG - NGFNL Under 18 Interleague Carnival 2016

Wednesday saw the annual Evans Petroleum Interleague Carnival held at Traralgon West in what

can only be described as wintery. I had the priviledge of being the Team Manager again this year

and with both games back to back against Gippsland League and Alberton League respectively it

was a slog in wet and muddy conditions. Our boys started the game against Gippy League

extremely well and bolted out to a three goal lead at half time, the silence from the Gippy League

bench was deafening in the first half as they were wondering who this group of players were!

Matthew Bond playing at Full Forward kicked a couple and we were looking the goods, Gippy

League regrouped in the second half and shut down our ball movement not allowing us to get clean

ball into the forward line. They started to score and in the end we went down by a respectable eight

points. In what was very much a team effort there were a couple of standouts with Jake Frith from

Glengarry and Tristan Turpin from Churchill showing the way. Bayley Escreet from Heyfield

showed why he was selected as Captain for the day getting in and under off the Half Back line and

with excellent service from our Ruckmen it was a fierce and well played game.

We then took on Alberton straight after in what was a frenetic first half of wet weather footy

meaning the scoring was low and pack work was the order of the day, the North Gippy boys were

great again as a team unit and held the fresh Alberton boys at bay with the scores level at half time.

Unfortunately we ran out of legs in the second half and Alberton started to get some momentum

forward kicking five goals to our one and taking the match.

Thanks go out to all the players, clubs and volunteers that assisted myself to get the boys to this

carnival and a special shout out to Andrew Miller, Brad Evans, Pauline Bayley, Gordon Bayley and

David Kyle for their assistance and I look forward to getting the boys ready for next year. Jake Frith

won the best on ground medal for the NGFNL, great effort mate and well deserved.

North Gippsland FNL Representative Netball - Under 17's Red Win Tournament!

The NGFNL netball teams have had success at the Sale Netball Association Tournament that was held Sunday 22nd May 2016.

Three teams, two 17&Under and one 15&Under were entered into the tournament as a warm up to NV Association Championships that are being held on Sunday 5th June 2016 at Sale.
The two 17&Under teams ended up playing each other in the grand final with the NGFNL Red A team winning.  Fantastic effort all.

The 17&Under North Gippsland ‘A’ team emerged as premiers today defeating their opponents in 7 of the 8 games played throughout the day.  It was exciting to have both North Gippsland 17&Under Representative teams play off in the Grand Final.  The ‘A’ team were strong defensively all over the court all day, causing many opposition errors in every game. Capitalising on their turnovers and giving our goalers plenty of opportunities to score, this was very encouraging to see leading up to our main tournament day in two weeks the NV Association Championships.  A great team effort.  Coach Shirley Fromberg

The girls had a good day out coming out with 3 wins and 3 losses which left us 3rd on the ladder. They fought hard in all games but the real battle came in the semi final against Casey Cyclones where we went into double overtime. The girls fought hard and pushed themselves to their limits and thankfully they came out with the win! We then got to battle it out in the grand final with North Gippy Red who unfortunately got the better of us but the girls didn’t go down without a fight. The girls played very well through out the day and should be very proud of themselves! Congratulations again to both teams and best of luck for 2 weeks time!  Coach Sarah Mayman

The NGFNL 15&Under team played in the Sale tournament on Sunday 22nd May 2016 at the Gippsland Sporting Complex at Sale.  The girls all played well with 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss for the day which put them in 3rd position on the ladder.  This put them into the semi final against a very strong and accurate Springvale.  The talented NGFNL players stayed with the Springvale side early but were then over powered in the last half.  Springvale went on to win the grand final.  This was a great warm up for Association Championships in two weeks.  Keep up the good work girls. Coach Elissa Klose.

Jimmy Crabtree

Funeral service as follows

12:30 light lunch at church

2:00 leave church for lap of honour at the football ground

3:30 grave side service

4:30 refreshments at the Football club

With the passing of Jimmy Crabtree this week and to see the hundreds of messages and notifications for him it must make his family extremely proud.

So many clubs and organisations have obviously seen Jimmy and the Rosedale Football Netball club as a marriage over the years.

It has been a marriage that has seen countless rolls of electrical tape that have held Jimmy together, I would say hundreds of cans of Belt grip that have actually stopped some players from getting the ball from their hand to their foot but on the other hand has probably given some players the chance to mark a ball which they would not have had before without Jimmy’s belt gripped assistance, thousands of litres of water from the rooms to the bench, a lot of well directed criticisms at opposition players, umpires and even sometimes supporters and also words of encouragement to our own where no Rosedale footballer or netballer could ever do anything wrong except being told to “its too quiet, come on get your voices up”.

Even after a “Jimmy” spray, whether it be a opposition player or umpire, it would always be followed up moments later with a drink of water for whoever was on the receiving end.

Jimmy’s three loves in his life were his ninety mile beach, his RFNC and his family, undoubtedly his family drew him to the club, his family kept him at the club along with the passion that grew inside him in the end for the club, many times while talking to jimmy after a grand final loss or win you would see a tear well up in his eye over pride or dissapointment.

You will be sorely and sadly missed Jimbo, after years of no-one being allowed to touch the water bottles I don’t think anyone will be game to.

A small part of the Rosedale Football Netball Club passed away with you Sunday.

Our condolences to all from the Rosedale Football Netball club

Vale: Jim Crabtree - NGFNL Hall of Fame Member - Rosedale FNC Legend

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Mr Jim Crabtree of the Rosedale Football Netball Club.

Below is a statement from our NGFNL President David Kyle,

It is with regret that I was advised about the passing of Mr Jim Crabtree early this week. For many of us Jim was the face of the Rosedale FNC and in my opinion an iconic person within the North Gippsland Football Netball League. Jim was of a gentle nature however his affectionate personality rubbed off on us all.

I have many fond memories of Jim. He would always look after the umpires when they needed a drink and tell them they were doing a great job and whilst he never said it I am sure he hoped those men in green would pay his beloved “Rosy” another free kick or two.

For many years he would camp at the Traralgon showgrounds the night before the Grand Final and sweep the Netball courts for the league, he would always have a chat to me about his beloved “Rosy” and loved the fact we allowed him to wear the NGFNL Logo on his white Trainers top. He told me how much he enjoyed the company of the young people around his club and most recently I saw a tear in his eye as he raised and unfurled the 2015 Premiership flag in round one against Heyfield.

Jim Crabtree was inducted into the leagues Hall of Fame a few years ago and I recall with clarity the humility he had for being honoured by his peers with this award. Jim was a man of few words on the public stage however he was never shy in offering a helping hand to all and sundry.

I am confident that I speak on behalf of all North Gippsland Football Netball Clubs when I offer our sincere condolences to Jim’s immediate family together with that of his extended family at the Rosedale Football Netball Club.

We will miss you “Jimmy” thanks for your hand of friendship and the many fond memories

“Rest in Peace”
